I'm a friendly and outgoing person who thrives in making genuine connections with people and understanding how they view their world. Before I was a teacher, I worked as a journalist at WBUR, Boston's NPR News Station, for 6 years; I started as an intern out of college and ended up working on almost every show and department at the station, including Morning Edition. My undergraduate degree is in English and Journalism from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I've covered local, state, and federal elections, talked with legislators and elected officials at every level of government, and have a practical sense of news judgment.
After 6 years in journalism, I went back to school and obtained my Master's in Social Studies Education from Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development in 2021. I've been a middle school Writing and Social Studies teacher at Chicago Public Schools for 4 years now. I find joy in teaching writing, civics, and social studies. More than that, I want to help kids feel empowered to learn about their world! I love showing kids how history isn't something from the past - we're living it right now. It is an incredibly powerful experience to help kids find joy and confidence through writing, inquiry, and practice. I do not take this work for granted, and I am appreciative of the connections I form with students in the process.
